Laughlin, Nevada's largest RV Dealership, Paul Evert's RV Country, announced late Friday (Jan. 30) that they plan to close their doors by the end of April. The Laughlin closure will affect about 45 employees in sales, service, parts, and other jobs.
"We held out as long as we could," says Vice President Curt Curtis, "but it's a very tough economic time and the Laughlin RV market was no longer as profitable as we needed it to be."
"This doesn't meant you've seen the last of us," Curtis says. "We still plan to do shows in the Tri-State area. It's just unfortunate, that after 9 years in Laughlin, we've become one more victim of the slowing economy, high gas prices, and deflated housing market."
Paul Evert's RV Country launched an aggressive advertising campaign this month to help sell off some of their nearly 200 new and pre-owned motorhomes and fifth wheels currently for sale. Some prices were stated to be as much as 50% off of the retail price.
"While there are many varied reports of the market turning around and banks beginning to lend again, we feel it's best to consolidate locations, liquidate inventory, and put ourselves in a good and solvent position to remain in business through these difficult times." says owner Paul Evert.
The RV industry is often similar to the housing industry and currently both are experiencing the turn to a buyers market.
"Some of our older inventory is listed online at prices below our cost," Curtis says, "but if that's what we have to do right now to move coaches and generate cash flow, then that's what we're going to do. We plan on being around for a long time."
